The Goal: Playing Part 1 – Left Hand

In this lesson, we will turn our attention to the left hand of Part 1. This left hand pattern is very common in classical music and is called Alberti Bass. It is an alternating pattern of Root, 5th, 3rd, 5th that creates a really great sounding harmonic drive.

A few points to keep in mind:

  • Make sure the pattern is steady and even.
  • Alberti Bass is often mistakenly played too loudly. It is like any other harmony and should be played dynamically balanced with the melody.
