The Music Workshop Musical Dictionary

A lot of us have heard this word before but you may not know what it means exactly.
Allegro: means happy in italian. But what does it mean in music.

Simply put Allegro is a tempo. It’s a fast paced, cheerful,  happy sounding pace (not as fast as vivace o presto) that is used to describe pieces of classical music. Usually the first movements of a sonata begin with an allegro.

Let’s listen to this piece on guitar that gives us an example of what Allegro sounds like. Thank you Simon for this wonderful example.
