8th Notes

Let’s take a look at 8th notes. 8th notes last for 1/2 beat which means that every two(2) 8th notes equals one quarter note. In order to make it easier to count 8th notes, we say ‘and’. So for instance, if we are counting 4 beats of 8th notes,
we could say: 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.

Another way of writing this is:
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
or
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

These are all ways to write the same rhythm using 8th notes. There is no right way but whichever way works for you is the best choice.
