Learning C’s
THE GOAL: To be able to play all the C notes on the piano.
HOW TO DO IT: The piano is fortunately arranged in such a way that makes it very easy to locate any note. Here we begin with finding all of the C’s. The first thing we want to pay attention to is the black notes. These are arranged in groups of 2 and 3 which repeat throughout the keyboard. Take a moment to play all of these groups.
Once we can identify these 2 and 3 black key groups, we want to focus only on the groups of 2 black keys. The white key directly to the left of these 2 black key groups is C. Now go up and down the keyboard playing and identifying all of the C’s.
When playing piano, you will hear the term “Middle C” time and time again. Middle C also referenced as C4 occasionally, is the 4th C found on a full acoustic 88-key keyboard or piano. If you have a smaller keyboard with less key, it is the “C” located closest to the center of the keyboard.
